The intersection between sports and coding is plentiful: optimizing sports bets, making the fantasy football roster, even the creation of sports video games. However, in my life, I've noticed that these two have lived in their own, almost conflicting, worlds: sports occupying one, and programming taking up the other, with members of one world very rarely commuting to the other. People have attempted to combine these two worlds (think Bill James' Moneyball strategy, even though that's more of mathematics), and although they've made some serious progress, there's still more work to do. I know my efforts can only do so much, but if I can show at least a couple athletes or a couple programmers that exploring the other world is fun and insightful, then I've done my job.
